• Now, molecular evidence can be used as derived characteristics
• Sometimes molecular matches with physical, sometimes it doesn’t
• EX- discovery of new hormone only found in arthropods (crabs, lobsters, insects, etc) and worms, shows that they are related, even though they weren’t considered related when scientists only saw the physical side
• Genes has the “last word” on evolutionary relationships
