Polymerase chain reaction- a technique that produces millions of copies of a specific DNA sequence in just a few hours

• PCR makes enough DNA to be studied
• Invented by Kary Mullis in 1983
• Under right conditions, DNA polymerase copy in a test tube as it would in a cell
